Political Autopsy of Nigeria 2019 election

The recent concluded election  of Nigeria  reminds us of troubling political experiment that as gone wrong. For starters,  the laws establishing  Inec and conduct of election is deeply flawed.secondly, the method of appointment of Inec chairman by the president is a non-starter .thirdly the era of  bringing Vice-chancellors/academic professor into conduct of election as   not helped the political process. This year election was the worst ever conducted in recent memory starting with extreme poor logistics to embarrassing party primaries across all party spectrum of which the ruling party defied all antecedent of democratic ethos. The multiple party system we are operating today exposed the waste of funds in this party as 90% of them did not win any seat which when compared to expenses of printing of ballot paper begs a question how long can we continue with this white elephant project called elections? .
The seeming desperation of the political actors to burn down Card readers ,institute desperate litigatory antics reveals an unsavory precedence in our political life .

WAY FORWARD

1.Comprehensive reform of  electoral law which includes early conduct of party primary of at least one year to election, resolution of litigatory pronouncement  at least one  year to election as well as others.

2.A complete PHASE OUT OF PAPER BALLOT for full electronic voting.

3.Appointment of Inec chairman should come from NJC or an experience technocratic professional

4.Demonetized the political process  starting with a ban on outrageous sell of party forms ,sharing of funds in party primary.

5.Constituting a court solely responsible for election matters which will prevent duplicating of court process in this election season as being embarassing to our nation in general.
